Rain Drops Keep Fallen on My Head

Standard

We woke up about 9am and left about 10 since it was raining. We took the subway (after multiple hops) to the Washington Square Arch. We had fun failing to stay dry and taking pictures.

As we walked back to the subway Claire umbrella got hit by a bad blast of wind and the top popped off. After laughing we hurried to a convinience store so she could get a new one. We grabbed the F line subway and got to the Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall. We tried to walk across the bridge but only made it a 1/4 of the way before the rain and wind became too much.we took pictures to prove we were there then took cover in the subway.

We rode it to 5th avenue so we could have lunch in the Plaza hotel basement. If you ever want a good lunch with lots of options go there! It’s like a gourmet food court! Laura and I had a ham and butter sandwich on a baguette, and Claire had a turkey sandwich. For dessert Claire had a banana and chocolate crepe cakes (good, but a strong banana flavor and more like pudding consistency when eaten), I had a black and white cake (okay but a little dry and grainy frosting), and Laura had a red velvet cake (disappointed because it didn’t have cream cheese frosting).

Luckily when we left the rain had turn to mist. We walked across the street to the FAO Schwartz toy store. We had fun playing games and seeing the toys. I liked the brain games a lot.

After playing around we headed down the the lower east side to Elizabth st. So Claire could visit Erica Weiner’s jewelry store. It was very cool recycled antique items! Claire got a necklace that was a recycled printing press “x” key. They had really cool stuff!

We walked up and down Orchard Street (one of my faves) and when it began to drizzle we took cover in the Lower Tenament Museums gift shop. We watched the intro video and waited till our 3:15pm tour time. We took the Irish outsiders tour which allowed us to see the backgrounds of the tenament, some of the apartments which were kept unrestored so we could see how it looked when it was chosen to be a museum, and the Irish family Moore’s apartment on the 4th floor. I highly suggest this museum because all the apartments are based on real families and facts about their time at 97 orchard street. It is interesting to see how they made a living and each time period represented. The Tenament Museum is a must do for me when I’m in the city! It’s excellent and the educators are enthusiastic and encourage conversation and questions. If you need something to do in NYC get a tour!!

After we headed back to the upper west side  to have dinner at one of my favorite places The Meatball Shop. They have the coolest menus. They are dry erase so you just check off what you want for dinner!  Laura had the chicken balls with Parmesan cream on a sandwich, Claire had three sliders: chicken with Parmesan cream, pork with mushroom gravy, and beef with classic tomato sauce and steamed broccoli, and I had just chicken with Parmesan naked balls with mashed potatoes.

For dessert we had their ice cream sandwiches. Claire had two chocolate chip cookies with mint lime sherbet, Laura had two chocolate chip with brown sugar ice cream, and I had one oatmeal raisin and one dark chocolate chewy with ecspresso ice cream. Every part of the meal was delicious as usual!

Afterwards it was starting to rain again so we headed back. Claire still singing proud of your boy from Aladdin 24 hour later! We have been watching TV and semi packing up. I can’t believe tomorrow is our last day!! Hope the weather like us more than today! Talk to you later!

Busy Day 1

Standard

Okay long day, but fun day! We landed about half an hour early and we were checking into our hotel on the island by Noon. There was a large street fair on Lexington Ave so we picked up some Lobster Rolls and Clam chowder at a booth and ate on some sunny steps. The weather all of today was PERFECT! Sunny, cloudless, slight breeze, and about 70F.

After our yummy mini lunch we went to my favorite building, Grand Central Terminal, to pick up subway passes. We took the train down to SOHO and met up with the Danes! As a group we wandered the streets and ended up walking across the Brooklyn Bridge. It was a bit crowded in places, but over all fun. On the other side we walked down the the waterside park and got lunch at the Brookyln Bridge Garden Bar. Great location and and food!! We sat in the shade and relaxed after a lot of walking, most people got the Brooklyn Burger, mom and I spilt the grilled cheese panini, and Mormor had the cheese plate (not pictured).

After lunch we took a few skyline photos then hopped on the East river ferry. It’s cheap though it takes a while to get to the end (about 30-40 minutes). We walked up to 5th Ave and walked down it towards The Public Library. After seeing St. Patrick’s Cathedral the Danes went back to their Hotel and Mom, Dad and I wandered towards our dinner location in Hells Kitchen. We stopped in the NHL store to do a bit of shopping and made it to dinner right on time.

The Danes met us at 7pm and dinner was perfect and a NYC restaurant experience. We are ate Rice N Beans (Brazilian Food) in Hells Kitchen. Tiny restaurant but excellent food and drinks. I had the chicken stroganoff (and a white sangria)  there were some seafood dishes ordered, and dad got the house special. It was great to meet up with everyone and relax after a long walking day. We walked 21,536 steps today (about 9.82 miles) so my feet are happy to be resting in the hotel bed right now.

Tomorrow we are spending the day with the Danes and seeing Sune perform at Carnegie hall. I am Very excited!!! 🙂

That’s about all I have of interest today! Talk to you later! 🙂
